Bonfilla Potluck: Sunday, July 30, 2023

Dear Ones,

After a 17-year hiatus, the Bonfilla Potlucks have returned to the Collingswood (NJ) home of Beth (Filla) and Brett (Bonfield): 483 Haddon Avenue, across from Bistro Di Marino. We would love to see you this Sunday.

We have rules. Of course we have rules. Life is meaningless without boundaries.

  1. Please arrive no earlier than 6:00 p.m. and please leave by 9:00 p.m. Sleep is the new kale.

  2. Bring something vegetarian.

  3. Don't let us know whether you'll attend. Seriously. We love surprises and we feel sad when we think we'll get to see you and then something comes up and you can't make it.

  4. We have four indoor cats, so please take allergy medication if you need it. Note: We have a lot of outdoor seats and plan to use them, weather permitting.

  5. Ours is not a kid-friendly home. If you bring a child, you’ll have to monitor them closely.

For those of you who have been potlucky enough to know us for a long time, you know this is the part of the message where I include a little something extra, thematically unified, one obsession per year. This year's theme is running videos. Watching great runners run is the most wonderful thing. On Friday, Faith Kipyegon set the world record for the mile:

I can't watch this video without crying. She may be the most dominant athlete ever. To give you a sense of who she beat in this race, here's Laura Muir in the most recent 5th Avenue Mile:

And here's Nikki Hiltz winning the U.S. Championship a couple of weeks ago:

The runners competing in the 1500 (and the mile) are amazing. I can't wait for the Track & Field World Championships in Budapest in a few weeks.

We hope to see you Sunday!

Brett (and Beth)
